March 24, 2021 Virtual Safety Council Meeting

Registration is open for the March 24 meeting at 8am, Gary O’Brien will be presenting “Rescuing Dutch the Dog”.   It is actual footage of a dog rescue from a storm sewer.  Gary discuss all of the similarities of confined space rescue.

Information about our speaker:

Gary O’Brien, President of O’Brien’s Safety Services and O’Brien’s Confined Space Rescue Services is an experienced professional with over 40 years in the health and safety field.  Gary brings a commonsense safety approach to companies of all sizes and financial backgrounds.

As an OSHA authorized trainer, Gary has provided safety training and consulting to a variety of industries.  He has also fulfilled a niche market with O’Brien’s Confined Space Rescue standby teams.

In addition to his role as an advisor to the Mid-Ohio Valley Safety Council Board of Directors, Gary serves as the Vice Chairperson for the Central Ohio Valley Emergency Industrial Organization (COVEIO), is the Chairman of the Marietta Chamber of Commerce, and frequently presents with OOGEEP (Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program) on safety in the oil and gas industry.  He is a member of the American Society of Safety Professionals and a NCCER Certified Master Trainer.

Rick Maj Richard E. Maj II, CSP Industrial Hygienist Canton Service Office339 E Maple Street #200, North Canton, Ohio 44720, richard.m.1@bwc.state.oh.us 330-904-4506 Rick graduated from the University of Akron in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management. He was hired in July 1983 by the BWC Division of Safety and Hygiene and is an Industrial Hygienist. He successfully met the requirements set forth by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals and became a Certified Safety Professional in 1995. As an Industrial Hygienist he conducts surveys to identify, evaluate, and control air and noise hazards in the workplace. He is also an instructor for the Division of Safety and Hygiene OCOSH Training Center.
Deb Bailey received her Associates Degree in Environmental Engineering from Lakeland Community College and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from the University of Akron. She has over 25 years for work experience in industry. She worked as the Environmental, Safety and Health manager in heavy steel and steel manufacturing automotive, paint production and medical manufacturing. She has also worked as the Environmental Manager of Sea World of Ohio. She is currently employed as an Industrial Safety Consultant with the Bureau of Workers Compensation, Division of Safety and Hygiene. She has served on the Portage County LEPC, developed Hazardous Materials Response Teams at multiple facilities. Experience in:Design and development of a Class I Division II paint production facility, Environmental remediation work, asbestos abatement, waste water and water sampling and analysis. Trained in DOT and HazWoper . OSHA Authorized General Industry trainer.

June is National Safety Month

The National Safety Council (NSC) designates each June as National Safety Month. National Safety Month focuses on reducing leading causes of injury and death at work, on the road, and in our homes and communities. The four weekly topics this year are:

• Slips, trips and falls
• Fatigue
• Impairment
